TWO local divers from PONI divers graduated from the 16-day Instructors Development Course (IDC) provided by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), which was the first time to be held in the Sultanate.
The graduation reception was held at the Kota Batu Yacht Club organised by PONI divers where the two locals, Abdul Afiq Abdul Whalid and Suhaimi Hj Taha @ Hj Duraman were among the 12 candidates who received their certificates yesterday.
One of the newly certified diving instructors, Abdul Afiq emphasised an objective of the PONI divers which is to teach Bruneians how to dive so they could feel safe and be more interested in diving activities.
Sharing his experience, Afiq said that at first he wasa not interested in diving but after some coaxing from their general manager, Wong Thye Sing, Afiq said it made a big change to his life.
Including them, said Afiq, there are four PONI PADI certified diving instructors.
Attending the reception was the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, who also handed certificates to the 12 new diving instructors.
Also present was the PADI course Director running the IDC, Arnold Yap from Seamonkey Malaysia and Rommy Cheung the PADI Examiner from Australia.
