A Singaporean woman drowned while diving near the sea at Tioman Islands' Sipadan Wreck on April 19 at around 11.55am.
According to a Shin Min Daily News report, the deceased, Sim Qiu Yan, 30, had travelled to Tioman Islands, a popular diving spot, during the long Easter weekend with eight other Singaporean friends.
Rompin police chief DSP Johari Jahaya said the group had hired a boat at Mersing to take them out to sea for diving.
Lianhe Wanbao reported that her body was found at 10pm that night, and sent to a hospital in Kuantan for postmortem examination yesterday evening. Sim's family also travelled to Malaysia to claim her body.
According to Malaysian media, the late Ms Sim was described by family members as a diving enthusiast and earned a diving license early this year. It was her second diving trip at the Tioman Islands, reported Shin Min.
The diving instructor who accompanied the group reportedly told Malaysian police that Sim was in good condition before she began diving.
